The training will secure the seat of the committee member for two (2) years before they will be required to attend the training again. Also, it will also provide everyone attending the 3 hours Code of Ethics Training that is required to be taken every 2 years (2017-2018) by the National Association of REALTORS® to maintain REALTOR® membership in the Association.
These Committee members are required to attend a training session at least once every other year.
Members that wish to serve on the Grievance Committee can join the committee by taking this training. The committee reviews the complaints to ensure that complaints are in the proper form, have been filed within the time limit established in NAR's Professional Standards policy, and are otherwise procedurally correct (i.e., the respondent must be an Association member) and that the correct Articles of the Code of Ethics are charged and that the complaint on its face is not frivolous or unwarranted.
REALTOR® Members serve on the Grievance Committee for a period of three (3) years and then are moved to the Professional Standards Committee. The Professional Standards Committee makes up the Hearing Panels that conduct hearings on cases that have been referred to them from the Grievance Committee. The panel is the group that determines the merits of a complaint, if a violation of Ethics has occurred, and who receives the award in an Arbitration Hearing.
